How to Prepare for your Puppy's First Days in a New Home

How to Prepare for your Puppy

You've managed to choose a responsible breeder and have finally picked your new puppy? Before you bring your new pet home, you should make some preparation. Here's what you can do to prepare for your puppy's first days in a new home.

Before the puppy comes home

When you find out the exact date your new puppy is coming into your home, it's time to take some steps to prepare your home and your family for the new member.

Start with a family meeting, in which you will make some rules, assign some tasks, and choose the dog's primary caretaker.

The next step would be stocking up dog supplies - some basics like food and water bowls, dog bed, dog food collar, leash, some toys, crate, and odor-removing cleaners. It would come in handy in those first days.

You should also prepare your home in terms of creating a living space for your dog when he can't damage some of your stuff, or eat something that could harm him. You can do this with a gate.

When the puppy arrives

The moment your new puppy steps into its new home, the adjusting period begins. First, you should introduce the puppy to its crate, which will be your ally for future dog training.

Training should start as early as possible, whether you'll train it yourself or put him into dog class.

Setting up a routine for you and your dog can be very helpful. make a schedule for dog meals, dog walks, training, and bathroom breaks, then try to stick to it.

Last, but not the least, find a good and trustworthy vet. This step is really important and it's great to have a good vet while your dog is still a puppy.

Congrats on your new puppy! You are now officially ready for bringing it home.
